Why We Do What We Do

We believe everyone deserves the tools to build a brighter future.

The skilled trades provide practical, high-demand career pathways for young people who want to build, fix, create, and contribute. These careers support communities, infrastructure, aviation, construction, utilities, advanced manufacturing, transportation, and essential services.

National and Alabama Workforce Signals

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects construction and extraction occupations to grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2024 to 2034, with about 649,300 openings projected each year on average.

  • BLS reported a median annual wage of $58,360 for construction and extraction occupations in May 2024, compared with $49,500 for all occupations.

  • The Alabama Community College System emphasizes technical training, short-term and long-term certificates, stackable credentials, licensure pathways, and employer-aligned workforce development.

  • The Foundation’s model is designed to complement these training pathways by helping students cover real-world costs and persist through completion.
